‘My goal is ‘change’, to change society for better’- Chetan Bhagat

Pune, January 6, 2018: Change is the only constant in life but how well do we actually take change is the question. Chetan Bhagat, a modern Indian contemporary writer and public speaker who has gained recent analogy status to change said that “Change is the only way to become progressive. My goal is changeto change society for better. It is a difficult and slow process though and needs nudging but its sure to benefitsociety at large,” while giving a pep talk on day 2 of Adhyay’18, an annual Rotary conference oraganzied by Rotary District 3131 and held at Amanora Township on Saturday evening.

Abhay Gadgil, District Governor, Rotary District 3131 and Deepa Gadgil, Past President, Rotary club- Pune University and currently the First Lady of Rotary District 3131 along with other Rotarians were present on this occasion.

Bhagat who is both IIT and IIM alumni further added, “It is not necessary to be most intelligent or even be best to win. But one must know howto adapt. And if really need to be one than be the winner who is the game changer,” while delivering his talk on topic ‘Do Books & Movies Matter?’.He also cited example of cockroaches and called them the most adaptive creature in the Universe. “We all must try and be like cockroaches if we need to survive and succeed in the world,” he added.

On talking about current fad of Social Media, Bhagat said, “Social Media has power to reach masses and people who rule the nation consider it too. I learned this only after my tweet on opinion polls caught attention of Modiji in 2013 on which he later wrote a blog too. I believe it’s a wayto share things and totally depends on content. To me twitter is a new way of literature as it justifies the definition.”

“I want to reach maximum people and especially youngsters’ in all possible way. Books and movies will continue to impact masses. Story telling method change but stories never go out of fashion. To be precise, books teaches two important qualities in life i.e to build concentration and imagination which are key to one’s progress,” exclaimed Bhagat who makes a point to communicate through all media platform possible.

After his debut in 2004 with ‘Five Point Someone’, he has authored many more fiction novels and written few Bollywood movies too. On his success Bhagat said that, “I am not a best writer but I am best selling writer. I was at right place in right time when India was getting familiar with the language and masses were shifting towards English to communicate and I chose to write in simple English as wanted to write formasses.”
